A soft, creamy, powdery vanilla with the unmistakable Guerlain touch. Shalimar L’Essence takes the familiar Shalimar combination of bergamot, iris, rose and vanilla and puts vanilla firmly in the spotlight.
It is warm, smooth and slightly smoky, with a plush powdery quality and a soft leather-like depth underneath. The overall effect is much more approachable and contemporary than the classic Shalimar, while still retaining its unmistakable DNA.
Good to very good. Guerlain classifies L’Essence as an intense Eau de Parfum, and community ratings currently put its longevity at about 7.9/10. Individual experiences vary, with some reporting 4–5 hours of noticeable wear and others getting 9–10 hours.
Moderate. This is not the enormous aura that some people experience from Shalimar Eau de Parfum. L’Essence tends to stay closer to the skin, creating a warm, creamy scent cloud rather than announcing itself from across the room.
Beautiful for fall and winter, evenings, dinners and intimate occasions, but soft enough to wear during the day. It can easily become an everyday vanilla for someone who likes a little sophistication and powder rather than a straightforward sweet gourmand.

If you like Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille, try Shalimar L’Essence. Both have a rich, sophisticated vanilla character, but L’Essence brings iris, bergamot and the Shalimar amber structure into the picture, giving the vanilla a more powdery, slightly smoky character.
If you like Guerlain Cuir Béluga, L’Essence is worth sampling. There is a similar soft, suede-like texture and creamy vanilla effect, although L’Essence has more powder, amber and classic Shalimar character.
If you like Shalimar but want less of the vintage feel, this is probably the Shalimar to try. It keeps the recognizable bergamot–iris–vanilla relationship while turning the volume down on some of the more challenging aspects of the classic.
