Overall vibe

Quiet, smooth and almost hypnotic. Gaiac 10 is built around greenish gaiac wood wrapped in several different musks, with cedar and a touch of olibanum (incense) underneath.

It isn't a traditional woody fragrance. The wood is soft and almost creamy, the musk gives it a clean skin-like quality, and the incense adds a subtle smoky depth. The result is understated, polished and unusually intimate.   It is intentionally restrained.

Longevity

Good to excellent, but very skin-dependent. Gaiac 10 is famous for being difficult to smell on yourself while remaining surprisingly persistent. Some people experience it for many hours or even detect it on clothing for days, while others find it disappears quickly. Le Labo itself describes it as lingering for days despite its restrained projection.

Projection

Low to moderate. This is deliberately close to the skin. It isn't meant to leave a large fragrance trail; the effect is more of a personal scent cloud that people notice when they're close to you.

When / Where to Wear

Almost anytime. It's particularly beautiful for work, travel, casual wear, quiet evenings and situations where you don't want your fragrance to announce itself.

This is also one of those rare fragrances that works beautifully year-round.

If you like X, you'll love Y

If you like Le Labo Another 13, Gaiac 10 is worth trying for a different interpretation of the clean, musky idea. Another 13 is more airy, ambroxan-forward and abstract; Gaiac 10 is woodier, warmer and more incense-tinged.

If you like Le Labo Musc 25, there is a shared appreciation for musk, but the personalities are very different. Gaiac 10 is considerably quieter, greener and woodier.

If you like soft woody fragrances such as Diptyque Tam Dao, you may find something appealing here—but don't expect them to smell alike. Gaiac 10 uses its wood as part of a much more musky, skin-close composition.
