SHIU 25
Overall vibe
Quiet, woody, resinous and meditative. SHIU 25 combines soft iris with frankincense, pink pepper and warm woods, with a cool, slightly camphoraceous edge running underneath. It has the atmosphere of a serene wooden interior where incense has been burning—not sweet, not traditionally “perfumey,” and not especially floral.
Longevity
Moderate to very good. Early reports are somewhat mixed, with some wearers getting around 6 hours and others reporting substantially longer wear. It also has the ability to become less noticeable to the wearer while remaining apparent to people nearby.
Projection
Moderate. It tends to create a personal scent bubble rather than filling a room, although some wearers find it projects more than they initially realize.
When / Where to Wear
Beautiful for cooler weather, evenings, quiet settings and dressed-up casual wear. It has enough freshness to work beyond winter, but its resinous woods and incense character make it particularly appealing in fall and winter.
Best for
Someone who likes:
- Woody, incense-leaning fragrances
- Iris that isn't lipstick-sweet or overtly floral
- Frankincense and resinous notes
- Dry, understated fragrances with personality
- Le Labo's more atmospheric, meditative side
If you like X, you'll love Y
If you like Osmanthus 19, Benjoin 19, Eidesis, or dry incense/woody fragrances, SHIU 25 is worth sampling. This is a fragrance that is polarizing so it's a solid choice for a sample rather than a blind buy.
- Le Labo Osmanthus 19 — probably the most useful comparison. Multiple wearers describe SHIU 25 as a drier, woodier, more resinous cousin of Osmanthus 19. One reviewer specifically said they'd layer Osmanthus 19 over it for an even stronger temple/incense effect.
- Aedes de Venustas Iris Nazarena — this is probably the best comparison outside Le Labo. It shares the iris + incense intersection, although Iris Nazarena is more mineral and SHIU 25 is warmer/woodier.
- Aedes de Venustas Encens Japonais — another reasonable comparison for someone who likes restrained pale woods and incense.
- Le Labo Thé Noir 29 — surprisingly, one reviewer found the drydown reminiscent of Thé Noir, particularly in its depth and longevity. I wouldn't call them close twins, but it's a useful reference for someone who already knows Thé Noir.
- Le Labo Gaiac 10 — there are early wearer comments comparing the feel to Gaiac 10, but I'd treat this as a secondary comparison because Gaiac 10 is much more of a woody-musky skin scent.
