FRAGRANCE NOTES "A"

Fragrance notes beginning with A are heavy on resins, "clean" synthetics, and crisp, botanical top notes. They span a wide range from warm resins to fresh, watery elements.

Absinthe: A fragrance note that is inspired by the alcoholic beverage of the same name. It typically has a bitter, herbal, and anise-like aroma, often associated with wormwood and other botanical ingredients.

Akigalawood
: a sophisticated, synthetic fragrance molecule.  It was developed by Givaudan from upcycled patchouli oil.  It offers a warm, spicy, woody scent with notes of black pepper, oud, and earthy patchouli, used in modern perfumery to add depth, longevity, and a complex, chameleon-like character to fragrances.

Aldehydes/Aldehydic: This element is known for providing a sparkling, crisp, and clean effect, often used to create a soapy or powdery feel.  This often provides an effect that brightens other notes.  Provides a radiant, clean, and modern feel although can also smell waxy, metallic or powdery.  Different aldehydes have different qualities.

Agave: A fresh, green, and slightly sweet watery note [20].

Algae: A salty, marine note used to evoke sea spray and oceanic environments

Almond: A nutty, creamy, and sometimes bitter gourmand note

Amyris: A, woody, and, slightly sweet scent often used as a base note.

Amber:  This is best described as a warm resinous and sweet accord - not a single ingredient — typically crafted from a blend of labdanum, benzoin, and vanilla.

Ambrette: A natural, musky, and slightly fruity/floral scent derived from seeds, often used as a substitute for animal musk.

Ambergris: A rare, marine-like, salty, and animalic accord, now often recreated with synthetics.  This was originally obtained from the excreted product of sperm whale digestion.

Ambroxan: A modern synthetic note designed to mimic the woody, mineral, and salty facets of ambergris

Animalic: Accords that evoke a natural, musk-like, or intimate, raw, scent profile.  Can be strong or off-putting to some.

Angelica: Angelica smells complex, like a mix of earthy, woody, and musky notes with fresh, green, peppery, and spicy facets, often described as herbaceous, aromatic, and slightly sweet when diluted, evoking foggy mornings or rooty depths, making it a versatile, grounding, and intriguing scent in perfumery.

Apple / Apple Blossom: Fruity and fresh notes ranging from tart green apple to soft, floral blossoms

Aromatic: A fresh, sharp, and, herbaceous blend, commonly featuring notes like lavender, sage, and rosemary.

Aquatic/Marine: A fresh, clean, and sometimes salty accord that evokes the scent of the ocean or water.
